In 2016, there were just over 5,000 murders in the U.K., according to data compiled by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
In the U, the murder rate is much higher, with an estimated 15,000 deaths in the city alone in 2016.
That’s the highest rate in the world.
The U.N. agency also projects the murder rates in the United States will double by 2040.
The New York Times notes that in the same time period, more than 7,000 people have been killed in the first six months of the year, with more than 3,500 deaths in New York City alone.
